Children are being branded as witches in churches in the UK, with many suffering abuse from supposed exorcisms in which they are physically restrained and screamed at. But those are the lucky ones.

The very accusation of being a witch can result in children being starved, tortured, beaten, stabbed or even, as in the case of Victoria ClimbiƩ, murdered. It is an increasing problem around the country, campaigners say.

And here I thought Britain was past this sort of religious intolerance.

It is so unfortunate that there are so many places in the world that still don't embrace all walks of life. Granted, this isn't the whole of Britain, but a select few churches, but it's just like our Westboro Baptists in the States. These people, in my opinion, are so lost from life that they feel the need to spew hate against anyone who they don't understand. Here we sit in our own little area of the world dealing with the prejudices thrown at us in our own lives - to a very small degree compared to others - and we forget that there are massive groups of people out there being hurt all because of misunderstanding, or refusal by these bigots to open their minds and hearts. Every time I think that our society as a whole is moving forward, you read or hear of something like this. I don't know what to do about it, and that's what scares me the most. There are more of us who feel these acts are ridiculous, but there really is nothing we can do about it. Going back to my example of the Westboro Baptists and the funerals that they attend - there are people who also attend the funerals to try to combat the hate that these Baptists are throwing, but they can't stop them entirely. So, the families of the fallen are still the victims of hatred in their most vulnerable time.

There seems to be so much religious intolerance going on. It doesn't make sense for this day and age that this would still be such an issue. I feel that we as a whole contribute to the well being of society and by that I mean, our differences in race, religion, sexual preference, etc. are what make the world run and keep things from getting too boring. My opinion, Mab
