I belong to my college's Pagan Fellowship. (actually I'm the vice-president!)
Many of my Pagan friends who I told, all said "I wish we had that at my school!"
So here are the questions: If you had been/were Pagan in High School or College, and assuming there would be no flack or consequences for coming out as Pagan, would you start or attend a Pagan Fellowship at your school? Why/ Why not? What would you want out of a community Pagan Support System/Club?
(Currently we have various members of our group leading workshops on various topics, we have potlucks on certain auspicious days *cough quarters and cross quarters cough* and host two Psychic Fairs a year. We're hoping to meet up and have a conference with other Pagan Fellowships/Clubs in the area, but I think that's falling through a little. *makes a sad face* )
Thanks a lot!

I would have loved to be part of a Pagan Fellowship at my school. I would also have loved a GSA. Unfortunately, and fortunately at the same time, I went to a Catholic highschool. Both would have eased the feeling that I was the only one out there, and the emotional turmoil that came with that "outsider" feeling. While the restrictions from the Catholic school were something I've had to battle within myself, the education I got was far superior to the one I would have gotten attending the local public highschool. (My district's education system is in terrible need of reform. Our superintendent actually wanted to implement a program paying failing students money to improve their grades, of course those who already got good grades wouldn't get a dime though. But that's another subject.) I would want a Pagan Fellowship to recognize more paths than Wicca. It seems there's a common oversight that the one term is interchangeable with the other. I would want conversations regarding tolerance, education, and theological discussions and civil debates about what we, as individuals, believe. The potlucks are also a great idea, providing a sense of community.

Why/ Why not? In high school, if I had been Pagan, I might have considered joining a Pagan group. I'm trying to think of this as a person of that age, not the person I am today who has no desire to join a group. It would have been good to have that support where we could study together and know that there were others out there who understood what path I was trying to walk. If you feel called to do something like this, I think you should persue it. These forums wouldn't be here if I hadn't felt that they were needed.Azkanon Darastrix wrote: What would you want out of a community Pagan Support System/Club? Trust, for one. That might be hard if you don't know all your members personally, but I would definitely seek out a group that held trust as something important. Trust that what you discuss in your group is kept in the group, and trust that each member is going to put as much work into studying as the rest. I would also want my group to tell it's members right away what they expected out of the group. For example, I joined a Pagan women's group two years ago and they kept telling me about one member who left because she didn't agree with balance. She wanted to practice everything in the light, so when the group discussed darkness and working with the dark moon, she freaked out. That's also where trust comes in, I don't believe that as a new member, I should have known that story.

Oh my, what a great idea! I'm just finnishing up with High School, so if I had thought of it earlier, I might have started something up like this, because there are actually quite a few "like-minded" people here, so it might have gone well. The college I'm going to, on the other hand, is very small and I have no idea what kind of religious population is up there, so we'll see. I think they have a yoga club, though. And actually, I'm kind of in a group now, but not exactly. The New Age shop near my house holds a new moon ceremony every month, and they are starting up a discussion group that I'll be going to (first meeting is this thursday!). So I'm very excited for that. I like being a part of groups like that; I love to talk about things... So if I had been able to / were to start up a group, it would probably have a lot of discussion in it. I do really like the potluck idea, too.

Why/ Why not? I was openly pagan in high school and I'm still very open about it in college. I have at time thought about starting a meeting group or some-such but never have. I enjoy being a solitary practitioner, but I also like to talk about spirituality with other people from similar paths (also totally different paths, but those are two different types of talks). If I could reach out and get people to join up, I think it would be worth it. Azkanon Darastrix wrote: What would you want out of a community Pagan Support System/Club? A meeting place where everyone can feel safe and where they will know that they will not be looked down on or chastised for what they believe. I would want it made clear that this group is not some sort of coven. If that's what it became, I don't know if I would attend anymore. I would like to offer workshops and chances to learn about various spiritual and pagan practices/tools/views/etc.
