Today marks the start of the Celtic New Year. Some celebrate it, and some don't. If you are a reader of any sort (tarot, runes, stones, leaves, etc.) do you do "1st of the year" readings? And if so, what do you pick as the start of your new year?

I do 1st of the year readings every January 1st. It just seems more natural to me as that's when I turn my calendars and when I personally feel that the new year begins. However, this year I'm feeling the love for doing a reading today... I'll see if this idea takes a bit later.

I practice various forms of divination, with cartology being my favorite. I think I've always felt a calling toward the mantic arts ("mantis" being the Greek term for seer).

I do my New Year readings after the festival of Kronia in the summer, which begins the Greek year. The festival, named after Kronos, is similar to the Roman Saturnalia in that the Golden Age of the Titans is remembered, and the day is supposed to represent their rulership over the Isles of the Blessed (the tranquil aspect of the Underworld as opposed to the purifying aspect of Tartaros).

In remembrance of the ancestors of the Olympians and the joyous frivolity attached to its celebration, the festival begins the year with a spiritual tone similar to the Celtic Samhain.

I'm looking forward to the next Kronia and using my new Classical Mythology oracle cards. :D
