I have only experienced reiki once during a massage I was getting because of my Rheumatoid Arthritis and Fibromyalga I was hurting a great deal and even my pain medicines were not helping me.

The lady who does the massages I get had told me months prior that she was also a reiki master of something or other... I didn't pay attention....

But I had been reading about it, and happened to ask her if reiki would help the pain I was in. She said it would and incorporated it into my massage. She said that my body either would or would not accept the reiki

I could feel her do something different on my skin it wasn't her usual massage techniqe, I later came to find out after doing some reading, which I can only assume she was drawing symbols or something on the areas where I was hurting the most. When she did I experienced an intense heat, it felt like something set a fire in my muscles and joints... I can't explain it... but everywhere she did this... eased the pain.... it was gone

When she was done... she was soaked in sweat.. she had never been like that after other massages.... she said afterward that my body was like a sponge and pulled a lot out of her.

I have never had it done again, and I would love to learn this reiki, I have never had a long distance one, all I know is, I had felt better than I had felt in years after experiencing it.

She has since moved away and I dont know anyone else in this area that is trained in it.

For those of you who practice what would you recommend for beginning to learn and does the reiki work if you use it on yourself?

Blessings,
Touching Earth

I don't practice, but I can somewhat answer your question. I actually haven't revisited Reiki and the study of it since I wrote this. :( Sometimes life really likes to get in the way of these pursuits.

You can use Reiki on yourself and I believe that it's encouraged. Just like magick, if you don't practice on yourself, how will you know that what you're doing for someone else is actually effective. As an example, if you were to only send healing energy to other people and not heal yourself when you need it, you'd never know if your healing energy worked. Besides, it's not selfish and I think that the background that a lot of us come from (Christianity) we were taught to give to others more than we give to ourselves. That mindset doesn't need to be here as a Pagan or Wiccan. It's encouraged to do things for yourself, as long as you remember the Rede (if you're Wiccan) and harm none along your journey.

As for Reiki working when you practice on yourself, yes it does. I've only done Reiki on myself and when I have, I've noticed a tremendous difference.

We have a holistic health center down the road from here that also does Reiki treatments. I'd love to receive an attument and learn how to give one. Eastern medicine has always been an interest of mine.

I have only had Reiki preformed on me during a massage once.... it was incredible. There are no Reiki masters here and it is something I would love to learn. I too have to get that book and start reading. How does one get an attunement if you have never had one before... sometimes I feel like I have been stuck in a spiritual prison living in the area I do... alternative medicine, reiki, energy healing, and heaven forbid Goddess worship is not something you even mention around here. There are times I really do miss living in a huge city.... will look for that book.

As far as I understand it, someone has to give you one. They can either do it in person, which is how I got mine, or with distance Reiki, which is where they give you an attunement from afar. Since it's energy and knows no boundaries, this does work, you just have to find someone skilled in distance attunement. I believe that you can't get a distance attunement until you complete a couple of levels of learning/training, but that could just be something I heard once upon a time and got the message mixed up in the process. If you google Reiki attunements, you should be able to find many people offering them... for a price. That's when things get tricky and you have to decide if their price and qualifications are worth it to you. It's difficult to shop for energy work.

Such a VERY true statement. Charging money for energy work, spells, and so on is a very touchy and tricky subject today.... There are both good and bad reasons for this.

The nature of such things is that we as witches know that magick works in subtle ways, often through coincidence, syncronicity, and in gentle.... mild ways for healing. That's not to say that psychic healing is "weak", but that it simply HELPS the healing process that is natural to the body... and is rarely a "miracle" cure. So there are both good and bad reasons that it is hard to shop for energy work....

Good reasons: The very nature of it means that frauds and con artists can easily make use of it. Charging large sums of money for nothing at all.... and they will act as if they did energy work and only fooled you. This creates a very understandable skepticism....

Bad reasons: It truly does drive away the *true* practitioners... who would rather not have to deal with skeptics and have to prove themselves over and over when all they are trying to do is help the patient. So there are actually few really good one's even doing it.... and they might limit their availability.

I think that its fair to charge a fee for a true skill that not everyone has.... but its hard for the buyer to be certain that is what they are getting...

I had a reiki session when the local mind body spirit fair a week ago.

It was amazing - I normally don't see colours so much when my eyes are close, however there were waves of really intense blue followed by waves of intense violet, then an incredible pink. After that it settled to a orangey yellow colour - and when I had the aura photograph taken, it was exactly that same colour. I was shaking for about an hour afterwards... but in a good way.

It is something I'll do again when I get the chance!!

I had my Reiki I attunement this past Sunday, and am working my way through the cleansing (which is kicking my butt, by the way). It was a beautiful experience, and a very small group, mostly people I've known for a while. I'm already signed up for the Reiki II attunement (in October) and I'm so excited!

I've always been really drawn to healing in various forms - herbs, stones, natural remedies etc. - and I'm so excited to begin my journey into energy healing!

Oh, and on a side note with the money issue - Since we are this Reiki Master's first group, we're getting the attunement at half price. I was pretty pumped about that, being a poor college kid. And I know that my local metaphysical shop offers "free Reiki" days a few times a month. It's a wonderful idea and I think I'm going to start helping out with them soon.
